Go先生の妹(05)

今回はGo先生の妹がエチオピアで国内旅行に行ったときの写真とコメントを紹介します。

I went to Axum stelae field to see this historic site.
It is amazing how people built this obelisk, which is up to 23m high, more than 2,300 years ago.
The most interesting fact was that each one is made from a single piece of granite.
That is why, if you look at the second picture, stele on the ground is broken into half rather than into many pieces.

私はアクスム石柱草原（Go先生の直訳です）という歴史的な場所へ行きました。
2,300年以上前に、23メートルにもなるオベリスクが建っていたと思うと、驚嘆しました。
いちばん興味を持った薀蓄（うんちく）は各塔はひとつのみかげ石からできてることでした。
なので、ふたつめの写真で分かるように、落ちた塔は粉々になるのではなく、真っ二つに割れているのです。
